James trained at ALRA, and has worked as a writer, director, and actor in film, television, and theatre. He is one third of comedy trio Rule of Three, and has written and/or directed many short films screened at festivals all over the world, including the US, UK, and Indonesia. He is also an award-winning screenwriter.

What item do you consider essential to a road trip? (apart from a car)

500 Miles, by The Proclaimers, on a loop in the cassette player. Do cars still play cassettes?

What kind of driver are you?

Shamefully inexperienced. Even my bicycle has stabilizers.

What kind of passenger are you?

Fast asleep, usually.

Do you have a favourite journey?

I have a favourite song by Journey, if that counts? (it's Any Way You Want It, if you're interested).

Can you remember a long journey from your childhood?

The journey to adulthood.

BROOKS LIVERMORE - Writer / "Dan"

 

Brooks trained at Arts Ed London. He has worked in theatre, film and television. He is one third of comedy trio Rule of Three  and has also performed stand-up around the comedy circuit. As a writer Brooks has had shows in London and Edinburgh, as well as starring in  scripts commissioned by Warner Bros, Comedy Box TV. 

What item do you consider essential to a road trip? (apart from a car) 

Coffee - and a basic grasp of the rap bit of 21 seconds to go.

 
What kind of driver are you? 

Mellowing with age - I’ll still race you for pinks though.
 

What kind of passenger are you? 

Generally a sleepy one. Although I hate it if people fall asleep when I’m driving.

 

Do you have a favourite journey? 

Driving on the M6 Toll road, it leads you to the best services in the land – Knutsford Moto. It’s true what they say - you get what you pay for.
 

Can you remember a long journey from your childhood? 

We used to go camping in Cornwall, which is miles from everywhere and took about 8 hours. My Mum used to light my dad’s cigarettes for him as he drove – she didn’t even smoke and no one was telling us it was bad to hot box a car full of kids.

Hopefully not Brad Pitt's wife's head from Seven - he was really upset about that, don't want to drag that up again.

ROISIN RAE - Writer / "Alice"

 

Roisin trained at Drama Centre London. She has worked in theatre, film and television. She is one third of comedy trio Rule of Three and a founder member of Prams in the Hall  theatre company. As a writer Roisin has had plays in London and Edinburgh and a script commission from BBC radio comedy.

What item do you consider essential to a road trip? (apart from a car)

Crisps. Salt and Vinegar Walkers, Skips and  Wheat Crunchies are the most essential

What kind of driver are you? 

I am a South London driver, I'll give way, sure, but I know when to stick my nose out.

What kind of passenger are you? 

I think I'm a pretty amazing passenger. I will hand you things. I may occasionally comment if I feel the driver needs highway code reminders....

Do you have a Favourite journey? 

Driving to France, taking the car ferry to Le Harve.

Can you remember a long journey from your childhood? 

We used to drive from Cambridge to Oldham to visit my Dad - I would try and memorise the route in case I ever needed to do it on foot!

ANNA SIEMIACZKO - Producer

 

Anna is a writer, filmmaker and producer. Dabbling her way through arts and film, she graduated in Film Studies from King’s College London & Film Producing at Goldsmiths. Having produced a number of things from an independent cultural magazine, a film festival to an indie night, she finally settled at film producing, whilst also directing and script writing. Anna has produced and managed the production of a number of shorts and music videos.

What item do you consider essential to a road trip? (apart from a car)

Very carefully put-together multiple playlists. 

What kind of driver are you?

I'd be a very easily distracted driver. 

What kind of passenger are you?

A very distracting one. I'll get you lost even if you know where you're going.   

Do you have a Favourite journey?

Rhigos Road to Brecon Beacons. 

Can you remember a long journey from your childhood?

Summer drives through Poland to the seaside.

What's in Dan's box?

I hope it's Adam Driver. 

ANNA GN - Co-Producer

Having produced a lot of shorts directed by James for Thorny Devil Productions, it seemed only natural for Anna to join in on this foray into features. As the ancient proverb says, 'A feature is merely a short that is longer'. 

What item do you consider essential to a road trip? (apart from a car)

Twizzlers. Jelly snakes. Haribo. Essentially, the answer is gelatine.

What kind of driver are you?

A singing one. When I'm alone.

What kind of passenger are you?

Nervous.

Do you have a Favourite journey?

Road tripping through Vancouver Island was pretty epic. 

Can you remember a long journey from your childhood?

We drove to Germany once. I remember being very car sick.

Yichuan Huang - Director of Photography

 

Yichuan is a natural born filmmaker and videographer from China. His skills lie beyond cinematography; he’s a talented editor, gaffer and director. He feels that filmmaking is a path that chose him and not the other way round.

What item do you consider essential to a road trip? (apart from a car)

Camera. 

What kind of driver are you?

Driver who talks a lot while driving

What kind of passenger are you?

Always sleeping on the seat no matter what.

Do you have a Favourite journey?

Yes! the one I have done in Iceland!

Can you remember a long journey from your childhood?

Not really, I always sleeping in the car how could I remember? lol

Chuhang Ma - Camera Operator 

 

Filmmaker from China currently based in London. While studying her BA in Literature and History, she was fascinated by films and photography. She's been to Africa twice to make a documentary. In addition, she has a dark room in Beijing where she develops and prints the films. 

What item do you consider essential to a road trip? (apart from a car)

Acid music & Acid drugs. 

What kind of driver are you?

Road killer! As fast as I can, always.

What kind of passenger are you?

It depends on the driver and  the outside view. 

Do you have a Favourite journey?

A train journey from Tanzania to Kenya while making a documentary along the way. It was just the first carriage of the train and we used it as a taxi stop at any point we wanted !

Can you remember a long journey from your childhood?

It must be the one that carried me to the hospital, seemed endless.

Chris Jenkins - Sound Recordist / Sound Editor & Designer / Composer

Chris Jenkins is a singer songwriter and has produced three commercially available albums in addition to numerous compositions for film and video. He taught post production sound at the Academy of Contemporary Music for 7 years; specialising in sound design, foley, ADR and composition. 

What item do you consider essential to a road trip? (apart from a car)

A good audio book, usually by John Scalzi 

What kind of driver are you?

B.A. Baracus 

What kind of passenger are you?

"Yellow Car!"

Do you have a Favourite journey?

Down the mountains from St Moritz to Zurich after a month in Stubli... Or the A32.

Can you remember a long journey from your childhood?

11 years old - 8 of us crammed into Two 2CVs driving the length of France in convoy to our new life in Charente... and back again.

What's in Dan's box?

A perfect circle.

Nicki Cater - Sound Recordist / Composer / Assistant Editor

 

Nicki is a sound mixer/recordist and post-production sound and music editor. Working on both sides of the stage she has been a sound engineer for live music events and is also a singer/songwriter who performs live and is featured on a number of studio albums, singing backing vocals and collaborating with other artists. 

What item do you consider essential to a road trip? (apart from a car)

An MP3 player/streaming device filled with 80s classic rock and cringeworthy pop hits of the 90s and 00s. 

What kind of driver are you?

I think I’m great…the DVLA are yet to assess this.

What kind of passenger are you?

The best. I’ll sing loudly over any music that’s playing, play 'yellow car’ during difficult manoeuvres, and sometimes give correct directions.

Do you have a Favourite journey?

Life’s a journey baby…and I’m loving it. 

Can you remember a long journey from your childhood?

Yes, the running up the stairs to my bedroom after agitating my brother was the longest journey EVER!

What's in Dan's box?

A mirror.

Paul Morrison - Production Assistant
Paul doesn't work in film (or in the mountains), but he does like watching them (films, not mountains).  He's basically in this for the fun of it, and can't wait to find out what actually happens to Dan and Alice in the end.  No spoilers!

What item do you consider essential to a road trip? (apart from a car)

Snacks, a satnav, and a long list of podcasts.

What kind of driver are you?

 A country road driver, inner city driving is my nemesis.

What kind of passenger are you?

Shotgun and fidgety.

Do you have a Favourite journey?

Any one that ends at home.

Can you remember a long journey from your childhood?

The trip to the seaside at Clacton always seemed to take forever, but it was worth the wait :)

Anita Ulikowska - Production Coordinator
 
Anita ended up on her first film set by sheer accident and she instantly realised it was one of her favourite places to be. Since then, she has worked in many different roles (from emergency light designer to assistant director), doing all sorts of weird stuff to make films happen.

What item do you consider essential to a road trip? (apart from a car)

Good company and music.

 
What kind of driver are you?

​I'm a proud driver because I can drive on both sides of the road!

 

What kind of passenger are you?

Ideal. I'll entertain you with a conversation, offer water when you're thirsty or even drive when you're tired. It can't get any better.

Do you have a favourite journey?

Going home.

Can you remember a long journey from your childhood?

Lots. My parents drove me and my brothers all over Poland (and the neighbouring countries!). My fondest memories are from our drives to the Czech Republic.
